Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech is looking for a Quantum Design Lead to lead the team responsible for the design and simulation of superconducting quantum processors. This role combines technical leadership of the design team with direct, hands-on contribution to processor architecture, simulation, and layout work. The ideal candidate has a strong background in superconducting qubits and finite-element simulation, paired with the experience to manage, prioritize, and grow a technical team.
π«‘Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Contribution: Personally contributes to designing quantum processor architectures, performing finite-element simulations to extract key device parameters, and drawing final layouts for fabrication.
- People Management: Manages the design team's career growth, holidays, training, onboarding, performance, and compliance with policies and protocols, in coordination with the Head of Division.
- Delivery Ownership: Responsible for the team's delivery of processor designs. Plans capacity, coordinates execution, and removes blockers to ensure timely and quality output.
- Backlog Ownership: Owns and coordinates the team's integrated backlog, consolidating the product backlog (from the PO) and the technical/R&D backlog (from the Tech Lead). Ensures priorities are balanced and actionable.
- Joint Prioritisation: Collaborates with the Product Owner and Tech Lead to prioritise backlog items, ensuring both product and technical needs are represented.
- Standards and Workflows: Defines design workflows, simulation and acquisition processes, and documentation standards within the team.
- Progress Reporting: Reports progress and risks to the Head of Division and Staff Engineer.
- Cross-Team Coordination: Coordinates with other Team Leads and departments (e.g., fabrication, characterization) to align on dependencies and shared deliverables.
πMinimum requirements:
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating a technical team.
- PhD in Physics or a related field, with a focus on superconducting qubits.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Experience with finite-element simulations for quantum device modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Programming experience (Python or other relevant languages).
π€ΉPreferred Skills:
- Familiarity with agile/backlog management practices in an R&D setting.
- Experience working with flux-qubits or fluxoniums.
- Strong expertise in microwave engineering is highly valued.
π»Working conditions:
- Work will be primarily onsite, with possibility for remote work during the week.
Please mention your availability dates and whether you require an EU work permit in your application.
