The work
We are looking for a junior to mid-level Quantum Engineer to contribute to the development of readout and reset techniques for superconducting quantum processors and to support our quantum error correction (QEC) efforts towards scalable quantum computing.
In this role, you will work closely with experienced engineers and researchers to support experiments, improve measurement performance, and help develop scalable solutions for quantum computing systems.
This position sits at the intersection of experimental physics, cryogenic microwave engineering, and software, offering strong opportunities for learning and growth.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Assist in developing and testing readout and reset techniques for quantum processors
- Support experiments on mid-circuit and terminal readout performance
- Contribute to calibration routines and benchmarking workflows
- Help implement and evaluate qubit reset protocols
- Analyze experimental data and identify basic performance trends
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, fabrication)
- Document results and present findings with guidance from senior team members
What We’re Looking For
- M.Sc. in Physics or a related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience (can include internships, thesis work, or academic projects)
- Solid foundation in physics, engineering, or a related field
- Basic understanding of quantum computing or superconducting circuits
- Familiarity with experimental lab work or measurement systems
- Programming skills (e.g., Python for data analysis or experiment control)
- Ability to learn quickly and solve problems with guidance
- Good communication and documentation skills
Nice-to-have
- Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Exposure to:
- Quantum computing / quantum hardware
- Cryogenic or RF/microwave systems
- Data analysis / scientific computing
- Coursework or projects related to:
- Quantum mechanics
- Experimental physics
- Signal processing
What you’ll gain
- Hands-on experience with real quantum hardware systems
- Mentorship from experienced quantum engineers
- Exposure to cutting-edge topics like quantum error correction
- A pathway to grow into mid/senior roles
Why IQM?
- Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.
- High-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too—hybrid setups, flexible hours.
- Never the smartest: Expect to learn constantly. You won't always be the smartest person in the room, and that's the point.
- Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look!
- The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We’re in the phase where top performers get noticed.
- Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined.
The future of computing won’t build itself. You might be one of the few who do.
