About
Dear Hiring Team,
I am currently pursuing a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering at McGill University, where I have focused my studies on optical engineering, photonic devices, RF microelectronics, and machine learning. These experiences have sparked my fascination with experimental quantum systems and the hardware that will drive the next wave of computing technology.
During my time at McGill, I had the opportunity to co-design a micro-optics-based parallel optical data link system as part of a photonics project. We were able to achieve a 91% coupling efficiency of a laser source into an optical fiber, all while ensuring strong tolerance to longitudinal misalignment. I also dove into a technical case study on MEMS mirrors in advanced telecom applications, looking at how they could be applied to precision optical switching and beam steering—concepts that connect directly to scalable quantum hardware and photonic interconnects. In addition, my work on timescale optical quantum entanglement for ultrafast quantum information processing helped me build a practical understanding of quantum systems at experimental timescales.
Before graduate school, I worked as an Assistant Manager in Radio Access Network Engineering at Presto Info Solutions. There, I gained hands-on experience implementing 3GPP and O-RAN standards, handling RF integration and performance validation, and supporting spectrum refarming initiatives. This role taught me how to analyze complex signal environments, carry out hardware-level performance checks, and work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams—skills that feel directly relevant for lab-based quantum experiments and cryogenic systems.
On the technical side, I’m comfortable with Python and have worked with simulation and modeling tools such as Ansys HFSS, Zemax, ADS, Lumerical, and MATLAB. My background in optics, RF systems, and hands-on signal analysis has inspired me to pursue a career in quantum hardware engineering, and I’m eager to contribute to Rigetti’s mission at the intersection of research and real-world technology.
Thank you for considering my application. I’m looking forward to the chance to discuss how my experiences and interests could be a good fit for your team and projects.
Sincerely,
Sushant Sharma
