Role Description The Staff Scientist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing advanced quantum sensing and precision timing technologies in an on-site laboratory environment in Santa Fe, NM. Day-to-day tasks include planning and conducting experiments, analyzing data, developing models and algorithms, and collaborating with engineering teams to transition concepts into robust hardware and software platforms. The role involves preparing technical documentation, contributing to grant proposals and reports, and presenting research findings to internal stakeholders, partners, and funding agencies. The Staff Scientist will also help define technical roadmaps, support system integration and validation for defense and critical infrastructure applications, and maintain a strong focus on reliability and security of sensing and timing data. This is a full-time, on-site role.
Qualifications
- Strong background in physics, electrical engineering, or related field, with emphasis on quantum sensing, precision timing, or signal processing.
- Experience designing and conducting laboratory experiments, including data acquisition, instrumentation, and experimental control.
- Proficiency in scientific computing and programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar tools) for data analysis, modeling, and simulation.
- Familiarity with hardware and software integration, embedded systems, or control systems relevant to sensing and timing platforms.
- Ability to document methods and results clearly, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively in a small, fast-paced startup environment.
- Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant STEM discipline; experience with DOE or DoD-funded research, national laboratory collaboration, or defense-related projects is a plus.
- Eligibility to work on projects that may require U.S. citizenship or security clearances is preferred.
