On Monday we hosted Otto Group one.O, the technology consulting company of the Otto Group, at our Basel campus for a hands-on workshop on quantum computing and where it already creates business value. No hype, no "someday." Just what works today: hybrid quantum-AI pipelines that slot into existing production systems and move real numbers. As always, we ended at our quantum computer. Every piece of hardware physically in Switzerland. Digital sovereignty here is not a slide. It is a room you can walk into. Thank you to the one.O team for the sharp questions and the energy. Quantum moves from research topic to business advantage one real use case at a time. The question is no longer "if." It is "which use case first." #QuantumComputing #AI #DigitalSovereignty #Innovation

A classical AI needs around 700,000 parameters to design a new molecule. Ours needs about 100. Together with the Universität Basel, the Universität Bern and CERN, we built a generative AI model, a quantum GAN, and ran it on a real quantum computer. One network forges new molecule candidates, the other catches the fakes. The result: chemically valid molecules that had never existed before which are passing the standard tests for viable drug candidates. This is a first step, not a finished drug. But it proves the method works, and that same method can now help discover new medicines, starting with antibiotics. Great things happen when we get entangled. Let's explore a quantum use case together. #QuantumComputing #DrugDiscovery #QuantumAI

A true first: A humanoid robot visited our quantum computer today At QuantumBasel, we had the pleasure of welcoming GIGI to the uptownBasel campus, together with Frank M. Rinderknecht of Rinspeed AG and Theresa Schmiedel of ZHAW School of Management and Law. GIGI is travelling across Switzerland as part of the Tour de Suisse Robotique, exploring places where innovation and tradition come together. One of his stops was our quantum computer, operated in partnership with IonQ. Curious by design, he wanted to understand what quantum computing could unlock - not just for Switzerland and the world, but also for robots like himself. One topic quickly took center stage: energy. Quantum computing has the potential to reduce the energy required for certain AI workloads. Lower energy consumption means less heat - a point GIGI appreciated. As he put it, staying cool is also an important challenge when you're a robot. After recharging in our rooftop garden, GIGI and the team continued their journey to the Emmental cheese factory. From one of Switzerland's most advanced technologies to one of its oldest traditions - all in a single morning. That's a truly unique Swiss journey. Thank you for visiting, GIGI, Theresa, and Frank and thank you for supporting the visit Dr. Martin A. Sepiol. We look forward to seeing where the Tour de Suisse Robotique goes next. Simulating a single molecule accurately is one of the hardest problems in computational chemistry. It is also one of the key places quantum computing is expected to pay off. That is the problem QuantumBasel and Syngenta are working on together: applying quantum algorithms to molecular simulation for agriculture, where better molecular understanding means better crop protection and a lighter footprint. We will bring that work to the Quantum Industry Chat on 10 September at the University of Basel, hosted by NCCR SPIN: Spin Qubits in Silicon and the UpQuantVal Consortium, alongside the UpQuantVal Conference the following day. QuantumBasel will be represented across the program by Dr. Julien Baglio, Yelena Guryanova, and Dr. Frederik Flöther, contributing to the talks and the industry panel. Come find them, ask the hard questions, and tell them where quantum does not yet add up for your business. Those are the conversations we came for. The agenda is built for people who have to make decisions: talks on quantum computing, sensing and communication, an industry and policy panel, startup pitches, an exhibition, and lab tours where you can see spin-qubit research up close. The Upper Rhine has the research base, the industrial base and the capital. The Quantum Industry Chat is where the three sit at the same table. 10 September 2026, 12:00 to 18:00, University of Basel. Free participation, all sessions in English. Register here, free of charge: https://lnkd.in/eVtaV7KG #QuantumComputing #QuantumBasel #UpQuantVal #Syngenta #NCCRSPIN #DeepTech

8%. That is how many of the 60 Swiss financial institutions surveyed by FINMA have a concrete roadmap for quantum-safe encryption. FINMA Guidance 05/2026 was published today. Most people will read the headline: quantum computers are a cyber risk. That part is not new. Three numbers inside the document are. 72% of institutions have not planned or implemented any measures at all. Around two-thirds expect a quantum computer to break RSA-2048 in under 24 hours within ten years. And the 8% who do have a roadmap estimate four to five years to migrate their critical data. Do the arithmetic. FINMA expects a board-approved PQC roadmap by mid-2027. Start then, and you finish in 2032. So, are you in the 8% or the 72%? And if it is the latter, what is the real reason. Prioritisation, budget, or simply no visibility into your own cryptography? We are having this conversation with several institutions right now. If you want to compare notes, send us a message. source: https://lnkd.in/dfskuDTE #PostQuantumCryptography #FINMA #Cybersecurity #QuantumComputig #QuantumBasel

It was a real pleasure to welcome Syngenta's Seeds Business Leadership Team to explore the state of quantum technology, and where quantum-enhanced AI can be applied today and scaled tomorrow in agriculture and beyond. The exchange spanned a range of concrete use case areas, from forecasting and molecular simulation to omics and seed design. What makes this exciting is the shared ambition in the room. These are hard, computational problems at their core, and tackling them is not a solo pursuit. It takes deep domain expertise on one side and frontier technology on the other, working as one team. That is exactly the kind of partnership we are building together, and the energy of this exchange reflected it. Thank you to the Seeds Business Leadership Team for a sharp and forward-looking exchange. Syngenta Group #QuantumComputing #AI #Agriculture #DeepTech #Innovation #QuantumBasel #FutureOfFood

Last week parts of our QuantumBasel team spent a full day together in Basel, mapping out our approach for the second half of 2026. We talked about the work in front of us. Where AI and quantum are heading, how the two come together, and what real value our clients can get from quantum in the near term, not in some far-off future. What stuck wasn't a single slide. It was the energy in the room. A team of people who genuinely care about getting this right, asking hard questions, challenging each other, and pushing to turn deep technology into something that works in the real world. And true to Basel, the spirit didn't stop at the conference room. We cleared our heads with a refreshing swim in the Rhine. Deep technology, a real team, right in the heart of the city. Let's do this! #QuantumComputing #DeepTech #Basel #QuantumBasel

Last Thursday at Swiss Fintech Week in Zurich, we as QuantumBasel had the opportunity to bring together executives and innovation leaders to discuss how AI and quantum computing are beginning to reshape the future of financial services. While many financial institutions are still focused on scaling AI, the next wave of innovation is already taking shape. Quantum computing is rapidly moving from research labs into strategic boardroom discussions, bringing both new opportunities and new challenges. During the workshop, we explored: ✅ Real-world AI and quantum use cases for financial services ✅ Why Q-Day matters for cybersecurity and cryptography ✅ How banks and insurers can prepare today without overinvesting too early ✅ What leaders should be doing now to stay ahead of the curve A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the engaging discussions and thoughtful questions, and to Damir Bogdan and Jan Mikolon for sharing their expertise and leading such an insightful session. We're looking forward to continuing the conversation. #QuantumComputing #AI #FinancialServices #Cybersecurity #Innovation #SwissFinTechWeek #QuantumBasel #Banking #Insurance #FutureTech
